Warhol Foundation Cashes Out
Is this the end of the Warhol market?
The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts said Wednesday that it has enlisted Christie’s to upend the Warhol market by auctioning off the rest of his estate, which includes more than 20,000 works. These items are expected to sell for a total of more than US$100 million!
“We’re converting art into money,” said Chairman Michael Straus. According to the Wall Street Journal, the foundation aims to use the proceeds to expand the scope of its art-related grant programs.
