Pompeii and Herculaneum
Pompeii and Herculaneum, two cities on Italy’s southern coast, were buried after the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD79.
In 2013, over 250 archaeological remains from the lives of people in these Roman cities, including casts of some of the volcano’s victims, will be featured in a new exhibition at the British Museum.
This unmissable exhibition was “made possible through collaboration with the Archaeological Superintendency of Naples and Pompeii which has meant extremely generous loans of precious objects from their collections, some that have never travelled before,” said Neil MacGregor, the museum director.
