Fiona Rae’s New Work
"It’s not that I want to question in a self-conscious way the act of painting, it’s just that I cannot pretend to the idealistic purity of a modernist artist." - Fiona Rae
If you’re in London this week, don’t miss the opening of Timothy Taylor Gallery's third solo exhibition by British artist Fiona Rae.
The overall ground color of Rae’s new paintings is threaded with motifs reminiscent of the hanging gardens found in classical Chinese landscape painting, and the effect is one of extraordinary lightness and delicacy. Close examination of the paintings reveal fascinating small details, such as mathematical and astronomical symbols reminiscent of those found in Dürer’s star charts from the 16th century.
Fiona Rae: New Paintings opens on January 18, 2013.
