Bloomberg for the Arts
New York: Mayor Michael Bloomberg will be the next chairman of the London arts institution, Serpentine Gallery, taking the post after his mayoral term ends.
The exhibition space is run by art dealer Hans Ulrich Obstrist and Julia Peyton-Jones, who finds Bloomberg “absolutely hilarious and extremely endearing,” adding that he is "completely irreverent and talked about the arts in a very straightforward way.”
Housed in a former Hyde Park tearoom built in 1934, the Serpentine Gallery recently opened its new extension, the Serpentine Sackler Gallery, designed by architect Zaha Hadid. The inaugural exhibition was made possible in part by funding from Bloomberg.
