We sat down with Brooklyn-based artist Wangechi Mutu to chat about the current survey of her work, Wangechi Mutu: A Fantastic Journey, at the Brooklyn Museum.
Hailed by the New York Times as inventing her own brand of exoticism, Mutu is best known for her highly recognizable, fantastical collages that incorporate a variety of themes and obscure materials. She explores themes of sexuality and femininity, consumerism and excess, violence, and the rift between nature and culture, ethnicity and identity.
